Prepare for Sidewalk Chalk-a-Palooza this weekend!

Time to put your artist hats on – Sidewalk Chalk-a-Palooza kicks off tomorrow!  The artistic among you can decorate your sidewalks and driveways this weekend; all of us can stroll the neighborhood and enjoy the clever and creative things our neighbors come up with…. perhaps on the way to the first Porch Concerts which start Sunday night.
Sidewalk chalk will be available for free starting mid-afternoon tomorrow (Friday June 4) while supplies last at the following locations:

  • Bryant Street Parklet (Bryant & N. Euclid)
  • Farmhouse Playground
  • Highland Park main entrance
  • Stanton Ave. Tennis Courts (6701 Stanton Ave)
  • 937 Mellon St.
  • 5811 Stanton Ave.
  • 5513 Jackson St.
  • 1004 Farragut St.

Bryant Street Parklet Cleanup Update: Thank You!

A special thank you to all of the volunteers who showed up on Saturday, May 22 to help beautify the neighborhood parklet!  We were busy – –

  • The clay left by the gas company was broken up and the area (and a few other large bare spots) were covered with topsoil and seeded.
  • The corner garden was planted.
  • The front half of the wall by Casa Brasil was planted with sunflowers, tiger lilies, and other flowers.
  • The fence line hedge was reigned in and the large shrubs by the wall cleaned.
  • The picnic tables were washed.
  • And many old tree stumps were pulled.

Special thanks to Grounded for providing a whole trailer full of tools – and a fabulous volunteer! – and to Casa Brasil for allowing us to use their power and water!

Summer Porch Concerts – Musicians Wanted!

Last year the HPCC coordinated free porch concerts each Sunday night from 7-8 pm, June through September.  The concert series was a huge success because of the generous and talented group of musicians who shared their talents with us. We are pleased to announce that we’ll be coordinating the concerts again this year.  If you’re a musician who would like to participate, here’s how it works:

  • We email all musicians on my list at the beginning of the week starting the first week of June (first concerts will be on June 6)
  • If you want to perform that Sunday evening from 7-8 pm, you reply by Friday close of business
  • We post the list of confirmed performers and a map with concert locations on Saturday or Sunday in the Highland Park listserv and the HPCC’s website and Facebook page
  • You share your music and spread some joy on Sunday night!

To get on the weekly email list, please email HPPCPgh@gmail.com with your name, band’s name if applicable, anticipated concert address, and a description of your music. If you want to change genres or locations at any point, just provide an update that week. You do not need to commit to any specific dates at this time.
Thank you musicians – we look forward to seeing you soon!
