HPCC Monthly Meeting at St Andrew’s – May 15th

This month we will be meeting back at St. Andrew’s church! We will be meeting in the main nave of the church so there will be plenty of room. The meeting begins at 7pm.

The meeting is open to all Highland Park residents – please join us!

At our April meeting, we learned about the water containers available through the project 15206. At this month’s meeting, we will learn about the full 15206 project and what it means to our area.

Also, Carolyn Barber and Rose Smiechowski are starting a new urban harvesting initiative in Pittsburgh called Hidden Harvest.
It borrows on an urban harvesting model popularized by such organizations as Not Far From the Tree (http://www.notfarfromthetree.org/) in Toronto, Canada. It operates on a very simple model: neighborhood fruit tree owners register their trees, volunteers harvest the fruit and then distribute it equally between owner, volunteers and an organization in need. Come to the meeting and learn more.

Highland Park House Tour is Thursday, May 8th

The Highland Park House Tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 10, 2014 for the first time in nearly decade – rain or shine. Tickets are $22 the day of the event.

The self-guided walking tour through the historic Highland Park neighborhood starts at the rectory of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 5081 Hampton Street. There are 12 homes on the tour that span several different architectural styles – from Modern to Victorian to a cottage-style home right out of Hansel & Gretel. Each home has its own special charm.

Come see how these homeowners have restored old Pittsburgh charm or incorporated modern elements into the Highland Park community.
