With your colorful signs, noise-makers and shouts of encouragement, join us Sunday, May 3rd from 8:00am – Noon to cheer on Pittsburgh Marathon runners as they hit the 20 mile mark passing through Highland Park. Racers will enter from the corner of N. Highland Avenue and Bryant Street and run along Bryant Street to N. Negley Avenue. Don’t have a sign or noise maker? No problem! Sign making supplies and noise makers will be provided, courtesy of Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon. Everyone who makes a sign will be entered into a raffle to win prizes from local businesses – You do not have to be present to claim prize.

Enjoy race-day specials from local restaurants, live music by Hill Jordan and Slide Worldwide and free donuts and juice to kick start your morning (while supplies last).

Highland Park Marathon Kick-off and Cheering Section Sign-Making Party – May 1st

marathon 1Join Highland Park neighbors and the Highland Park Community Council for the SOLD OUT DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend, where over 30,000 participants will flock to Pittsburgh, setting an event attendance record. The marathon is May 3rd.

WHEN: Friday, May 1st, 2015 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm

WHERE: Park Place Pub and Applewood Smoke Burger Company, Bryant Street

Join the Highland Park community for a family-friendly Pittsburgh Marathon Kick-off Party on Friday, May 1 at the Park Place Pub. The Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse will be at the event from 5:30 – 7:30pm that evening to help race-lovers of all ages make signs to cheer on runners during the big race on Sunday. Enjoy music, marathon memories and good eats with your Highland Park neighbors. Everyone who makes a sign will be entered into a raffle to win prizes from local businesses.

HPCC Monthly Meeting April 16th – FREE screening of The Power of One Voice: A 50-Year Perspective on the Life of Rachel Carson

CarsonPlease join us this Thursday for the April HPCC monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church. The meeting is open to the public.

First on the agenda is an update from Commander Lando on the recent robberies in the neighborhood. Find out firsthand what the police are doing to keep the neighborhood safe.

The main speaker for the evening is Mark Dixon, filmmaker and Highland Park resident. The HPCC is holding a FREE screening of The Power of One Voice: A 50-Year Perspective on the Life of Rachel Carson, his latest documentary.

It is a groundbreaking documentary examining the life of Rachel Carson and the profound implications of her environmental work. The film features interviews with Rachel Carson’s adopted son, Roger Christie, her biographer, Linda Lear, and other notable writers, scientists and advocates. By highlighting the power of Carson’s voice, we hope to inspire others to add their voices to this essential conversation.

Crime Alert Highland Park – Update on Armed Robberies

There have been reports of three armed robberies in Highland Park in the last week. Until the perpetrator is apprehended, please use extra caution when out walking and report suspicious activity by calling 911 immediately.

The suspect is described as a black male, 20-25 years old, 6’0″ tall, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black jeans, short hair, and carried a black semi-automatic pistol. Zone 5 detectives and Community Resource Officers are investigating. The suspect possibly fled in a silver Subaru with the last 4 digits of the plate being 7863.
