Fulton has been serving the community since 1894, and the building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Today Fulton K-5 offers a unique blending of a traditional neighborhood setting with a French emphasis magnet program that promotes the study of French culture and language. The instructional program is based on the District’s comprehensive curriculum. All K-1 students get exposure to French language through movement, songs, poetry and vocabulary. Beginning in 2nd grade, magnet enrollees receive additional programming in sight words, sentences and simple paragraphs.
Qualified Fulton students enrolled in the magnet program are guaranteed acceptance into the Obama Academy 6-12 which is located just a few steps from Highland Park. Obama Academy graduates have been accepted into CMU, Pitt, Penn State, the University of Pennsylvania, MIT, the Berklee School of Music, the US Air Force Academy and dozens of other institutions. Graduates can earn up to a full year of college credit through the International Baccalaureate diploma and up to $40,000 in Pittsburgh Promise scholarship money for in-state tuition.
